This recipe for avocado dip is completely vegan and as always is something that can be customized for your preference. I even have some good storing tips for you just in case you need to make this ahead of time.

Key Ingredients

  • Avocado: Make sure they are ripe. One trick to make sure you are using the perfect avocados is to see if they have a little give to them when you touch them. You can also remove the stem located at the top of the avocado and note the color. If slightly green/yellow, that means your avocado is likely ready to go. If it’s black, you might have a spoiled avocado.
  • Plain Vegan Yogurt: I used a cashew based yogurt, but any plain vegan yogurt will work well. If you do not have yogurt, you can also use tahini for this dip as well, just make sure it is runny in consistency.
  • Lemon Juice: Fresh squeezed is best.
  • Jalapeno: Feel free to remove the seeds if you are not a fan of spicy.
  • Fresh Herbs: I used a combo of cilantro and chives. A little goes a long way for this recipe.
  • Coriander: Love adding just a hint of coriander to this. It helps bring out an additional depth of flavor that’s really enjoyable.

How to Make Avocado Dip

Scoop out your avocado into a food processor along with all of the remaining ingredients. All you need to do is just blend it up until completely smooth and creamy.

You may need to scrape down the sides of your food processor in between blending to make sure you are getting any chunks out. Once made, just top with extra cilantro and red pepper flakes for extra heat.

There are a couple of ways to help prevent your avocado dip from going brown. The main thing to remember is that it will brown due to air contact. If you reduce air contact, your avocado dip should preserve longer. One way to do this would be to pat your avocado dip smoothly into a container and place some plastic wrap overtop, making sure it stays flush against the surface of the dip, then refrigerate. Since this dip has lemon juice in it, this will also further help to preserve it’s lovely green color.

Can you make creamy avocado dip without a food processor?

Yes you can! This creamy avocado dip can be made by mashing your avocado really well with a fork. You can mince the jalapeno, cilantro and chives very finely to mix into the dip. Alternatively, you can also mash all the ingredients together really well using a large mortar and pestle until creamy.

Preferably, I recommend consuming and using it up in the same day that it is made. However, if you use the above methods for preventing browning, the avocado dip should last for up to 48 hours.

What to Serve Your Creamy Avocado Dip With

This dip is meant to enjoy with your favorite vegetables and chips. I personally really love using Simple Mills Veggie Pita Crackers with this dip and extra bonus that it is also loaded with vegetables too. Perfect crunch and flavor.
